Three men beat up the owner and staff of a city restaurant when they did not get alcohol. Even when the staff and owner had informed them that alcohol was not served at the restaurant, they kept demanding two bottles of beer. The incident took place at Shetty Lunch Home, located in RT Nagar, on June 9. The three men were identified as Kantharaju (28), Raghu (32) and Kumar (33), who had visited the restaurant around 11.30pm. The trio first ordered dinner and later asked that the staff to serve alcohol. When informed about the restaurant’s policy they got furious and demanded beer by banging the table. Staff members repeatedly told the accused that they cannot serve beer as it was a family restaurant and not a bar. Later, this turned into a heated argument. The owner of the restaurant, Rajeev Shetty (48), had to then intervene. He told the men to leave the restaurant. The three accused, however, did not comply with the owner’s request. They assaulted him and even threatened to kill him. The cops had to be alerted and the accused were taken into custody immediately. An FIR was registered against the trio at R T Nagar police station. The owner of Shetty Lunch Home, Rajeev Shetty told Bangalore Mirror, “The trio were already drunk and created a ruckus at our restaurant. When I requested them not to create a scene, they abused me and said that they would teach me a lesson. A fight began when one of the accused asked for beer and a staff member politely told them that no liquor will be served at our restaurant. But, they started throwing chairs and banging tables. I questioned them when they damaged the property, but they slapped and punched me. Later when they were taken to the police station, they created a ruckus there as well.” A counter complaint was also filed by one of the accused, Kantharaju. The counter complaint states, “We visited the restaurant around 11pm and ordered dinner. Even after waiting for more than 30 minutes, the food was not served. When we questioned the staff about the delay, they gave an arrogant reply. The owner of the restaurant told us to leave and even assaulted us. He also threatened to kill us if we visited again.” An official at the police station told Bangalore Mirror, “A fight started between the restaurant owner and the trio over a small reason. The three guys were also assaulted by the owner and staff. Both the FIRs have been registered and further action will be taken.” Both the FIRs have been registered at RT Nagar police station under the Sections 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), 341 (Punish ment for wrongful restraint), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke the breach of peace), 323 (Puni shment for voluntarily causing hurt).
