BENGALURU: A 36-year-old woman was allegedly tied to a pole and thrashed by villagers of Kodigehalli in Tavarekere, Ramanagara district, on Thursday. She had reportedly cheated them of Rs 12 lakh. Tavarekere police rescued Rajamma and a rrested eight villagers. She is from Kollegal in Chamarajanagar district. “Efforts are on to nab other villagers who allegedly tied Rajamma and assaulted her,” police said.Rajamma had settled down in Kodigehalli with her daughter several years ago. She allegedly borrowed Rs 12 lakh from several villagers and started a hotel. But she suffered heavy losses and did not return the money. When villagers forced her to return the cash, she vacated the house and fled from Kodigehalli some months ago. “Some of her lenders came to know that Rajamma was in Dharmasthala and traced her on Wednesday. They brought her to Kodigehalli on Thursday. Along with those who had given her the money, villagers tied her to a pole and assaulted her,” a police officer said.
