A cab driver was assaulted for receiving a call from an unknown number at midnight. The call was from a girl, who claimed that she was returning a missed call from his number. The girl’s boyfriend got furious, even when the cab driver denied calling the girl, and assaulted him the next day. The cab driver, Naveen (27), a resident of Someshwara Layout near Hulimavu, has now filed a complaint at Hulimavu police station. After informing the girl that he had not made a call to her number, she immediately disconnected the call. Five minutes later, the girl’s boyfriend, Chandan called back and verbally abused Naveen. Chandan asked him why he had called her at that hour. Even after explaining that he had not called his girlfriend, Chandan refused to back down. A confused Naveen did not even understand why he was being abused. After a long war of words between the two, Chandan asked Naveen to send his location so that they could settle the matter face to face. Naveen immediately sent his location.Chandan came to meet Naveen directly the next day, along with three of his friends, and physically assaulted him. Naveen still tried to convince Chandan that he didn’t call the girl and even showed him the call logs from the previous night. However, Chandan and his friends still assaulted Naveen, who suffered a serious injury on his back and had to have six stitches on his body. He then filed a police complaint. I never called that girl. In fact, I don’t even know who she is. When I was trying to explain the misunderstanding, the accused did not listen and assaulted me badly –Naveen, 27 years Naveen told Bangalore Mirror, “I never called that girl. In fact, I don’t even know who she is. When I was trying to explain the misunderstanding, the accused did not listen and assaulted me badly. When I showed him the call logs on my phone, he assumed that I had deleted her number from the logs. He and his friends had come in two bikes and sprayed pepper powder in my eyes and beat me up. After that they managed to escape from the spot.” An official from the Hulimavu police station told Bangalore Mirror, “The fight took place over a small confusion. The accused is absconding and the complainant has claimed that he does not know the girl and had not called her. A case has been registered under Section 307 (Attempt to murder). The investigation is on and the officials are in search of the accused.”
