BENGALURU: Police on Wednesday evening rescued a 27-year-old HR manager of a foreign bank from her husband and four others who had injected her with an anaesthetic and kidnapped her from her residence in Bhattarahalli, KR Puram. The woman, who was rescued in the nick of time after neighbours called police on noticing commotion at her house, was unconscious and had to be hospitalised. She is stable now, police said. Her husband Shabareesh Shetty, 32, who runs a water supply business in Kolar and is a budding Sandalwood actor, and his friend, Naveen N, 19, of Ayyappanagar, have been arrested on charges of assaulting, abducting, attempting to murder her and administering anaesthesia. Three of the duo’s associates are on the run. The drama unravelled around 6.45pm when the woman’s neighbours heard a loud noise from her house and informed police that they suspected foul play. A team of policemen headed by sub-inspector Srinivas Doddamani rushed to the spot and found a gang abducting a woman. Three members fled the spot on seeing the cops, but Shetty and Naveen were caught. Preliminary probe revealed that Kolar resident Shetty had recently landed a lead role in Kannada movie Arun. Police said he married a Kolar woman in 2011 and the couple had a son. But he fell in love with the Bengaluru woman and told her he was a bachelor. She trusted him and married him in 2016. Last Friday, when the Bengaluru woman visited Kolar, she learnt she was Shetty’s second wife. The woman began avoiding Shetty, who showed up at her Electronics City office on Wednesday afternoon and kicked up a row. He accosted her near her residence in the evening and created a scene. As the public gathered, he left the place. “He took the help of Naveen and three others and turned up at the woman’s house around 6.30pm. Shetty had planned to abduct his second wife and take her to his Kolar residence. He had purchased a sedative, promethazine, and an anaesthetic, ketamine, from a private nursing home in Kolar. The gang managed to get her to open the door by posing as electricians. Shetty tried to strangle her and later tied her legs and hands with a rope and administered the two injections,” police said. The woman lost consciousness, and Shetty and his accomplices were getting ready to shift her to his car when police swooped down on them. “We are interrogating the accused to know their exact intention for abducting the woman,” a police officer said.
