The land has been entangled in legal disputes since 1983 A plot of land (2.13 acres) in BTM layout earmarked to be built into a park has turned into a site for dumping garbage. The land has been entangled in legal dispute ever since 1983, when Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had declared that the land be made into a park. Since then the residents from surrounding areas have been using the vacant land as a garbage dump. It was only in 2014, that the Supreme Court cleared the land to be made into a park but till now the construction has not begun. A part of the park still remains surrounded by barricades due to the legal disputes. Aicobo Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association President GN Hedge said, “A year ago, a man had filed a case claiming that a part of the land belongs to him. The association got a stay order against that portion of the land.” The land is situated right beside the local BBMP office, but that does not hinder people from disposing their waste on this land. Residents surrounding the land are unable to open their windows because of the stench of garbage. A BBMP official said, “The garbage usually comes from Gurappanapalya.” BTM Layout Commissioner had directed that a park be constructed on whichever part of the land is clear. He even told that he will get the area cleaned within a month. “The residents were relieved after the meeting with commissioner. Even if a part of the land was being converted into a park, they were certain that people won’t dump garbage on the rest of it,” stated GN Hedge. “However, nothing has happened ever since the meeting and people still dump trash there,” he added.
