Bengaluru: Trolled mercilessly for allegedly attributing his success in politics to his ‘Gowda’ tag, Union minister DV Sadananda Gowda on Sunday attempted to limit the damage by claiming his electoral victories were mainly due to the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Speaking at a programme organised by the Vokkaliga community on Saturday, Gowda reportedly said his political graph zoomed only after he changed his name from DV Sadananda to DV Sadananda Gowda. Taking objection to the comment, people, a majority of them BJP supporters, trolled the Union minister on social media. Some even termed him a non-entity without the BJP and Modi. “Dear @DVSBJP If these are your words it is unpardonable. This election is fought on the basis of national security. People thought Modi was the perfect person to handle the nation. By default u got elected and u r Minister too. BTW why last time they snatched Railways from u?” Chakravathy Sulibele, head of Namo Brigade, said in a tweet. With the issue refusing to die down, Gowda issued a clarification on Sunday. “All I said was my party (BJP) has given due recognition to my community (Vokkaliga) through me. But it is being misinterpreted,” he tweeted. In another tweet he said, “It is BJP and Modi’s leadership which are responsible for my electoral victories. Even in future, people will recognise and respect us only because of the work we do under the leadership of Modi.” ‘No mid-term polls’ On another note, reiterated the BJP is ready to form the government if the Congress-JD(S) coalition falls. “If presented with a chance, the BJP is ready to rectify things. Enforcing mid-term polls on people is not proper,” he told reporters.
