BENGALURU: Kannada and culture minister DK Shivakumar on Friday reiterated his decision to issue fresh guidelines to release funds to organisations involved in promotion of culture and language of the state. “We’re bringing in a new system to weed out fake organisations and stop misuse of government funds. Genuine organisations need not worry. Our aim is to ensure eligible ones get funds,” Shivakumar said. The minister is mulling release of funds to organisations through respective deputy commissioners. Currently, the Kannada and culture department directly releases money. Many organisations have opposed the proposal fearing genuine artists and organisations will suffer, and have threatened to launch a protest. “Let them protest. I’m firm on my decision as it has been taken with a good intention,” said the minister.
